Description
An elegant and highly ornamental specimen or accent plant for the refined landscape, the ‘The Blues’ Colorado Blue Spruce is an evergreen conifer that is sure to pleases the eye with graceful form and soothing bright blue foliage. When left to grow naturally its weeping branches ramble to develop a “designer original” unlike any other that might reach 5 to 6 feet tall and 6 feet or more wide over time. That said, selective pruning can be done for a desired form. When staked to grow upright it will form a more narrow weeping tree up to 10 feet tall with beautifully weeping branches to the ground. How tall you want it to grow will depend on the height of the stake. Excellent in rock or conifer gardens, to accentuate an entryway, or anywhere you want an outstanding feature plant that draws the eye and grabs attention.
Landscape & Garden Uses
‘The Blues’ Colorado Spruce is ideal for use as an accent tree in rock or conifer gardens, to accentuate an entryway, in home foundation plantings, or anywhere you want an outstanding feature plant that draws the eye and grabs attention. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, blue theme gardens, Sen gardens and Asian gardens.
Suggested Spacing:  Best as a specimen
Growing Preferences
‘The Blues’ Colorado Blue Spruce is easy to grow in a damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. As with so many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic; leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or in pots. It grows best in full sun however in Zones 7b and 8a in the south it will prefer some shade or filtered sun during the middle of the afternoon. Once established water needs are lower when growing in the ground. In pots, soil moisture will need to be monitored more closely, especially during summer. When the top two inches of soil is dry, provide water.
