A free-flowering and extremely floriferous and vigorous climber or scrambler, Clematis triternata ‘Rubromarginata’ features masses of wonderfully fragrant starry flowers with narrow white petals edged in rose-purple surrounding greenish-white anthers. The 1.5 inch flowers appear over a long period from mid summer through early fall. The vines are clad with simple to bipinnate dark green leaves. Climbing 8 to 12 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, Rubromarginata is a fine choice for growing on a fence, trellis, pergola or other structure near patios, porches, decks and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where the sweet aroma exuded by the flowers can be enjoyed from close up. It can also be allowed to scramble freely through shrub and tree borders.

Climbing 10 to 12 feet high and spreading 3 to 6 feet or more wide, the Rubromarginata Clematis is ideal for growing on fences, trellises, arches, lamp posts, obelisks, poles, pergolas, arbors and other structures its vines will twine around. Excellent on a tall obelisk or trellis in pots, planters and other containers for situating on patios, decks and around other outdoor living spaces where the fragrant flowers can be enjoyed from close up. A fine addition to Clematis gardens, fragrance gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 to 4 feet apart to cover fences, trellises, and walls

Rubromarginata Clematis is easy to grow in a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Though it tolerates dry periods when established, it will appreciate an occasional watering in prolonged periods of dry weather. Make sure not to plant this one too deep as it tends to smother the plant.
