Description
Like its cousin Purple Diamond, Red Diamond© Loropetalum boasts the most intense purple foliage color of any plant on the market! Vibrant red, witchhazel-like, fringy flowers are heavy in spring, appear occasionally in summer, and again in fall. The foliage provides a stunning contrast with the bright red flowers and keeps it color throughout the year. Mature height is about 6 feet with an equal spread. It can be pruned or sheared year-round for a more formal shape and to limit size.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing naturally to about 5 to 6 feet tall and wide, or kept smaller with occasional pruning, Red Diamond Loropetalum is an ideal choice as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or in straight or staggered rows in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. It’s low water needs makes it suitable for use in Xeriscape plantings. The year round deep purple foliage contrasts nicely with plants that have yellow, light green, grey or other light colored foliage or flowers. A fine addition to purple-theme color gardens and large containers with a rim diameter of 16 inches or more.
Spacing:  4-5′ for solid hedge;  10′ or more for space between plants

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Loropetalum is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring. Requires a well-lit space for overwintering indoors.

Growing Preferences

Red Diamond Loropetalum is very easy to grow in most any average, most but well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. So make sure to plant Purple Diamond® in a well-drained site. When established, plants are exceptionally drought tolerant, requiring little if any supplemental irrigation. Foliage is more dense in full sun. Requires no pruning, however responds very well to almost any amount, making it an excellent choice for hedges.

Dark burgundy leafed loropetalum arrived well packaged, as usual. The cardboard has been useful in the garden under mulch. The plant has since been placed in the ground and has floppy red pink blooms. I am in GA ZONE 8 and it is in full sun and some wind.————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

Arrived healthy and beautiful. I would order from you again.
I could not find these plants locally. One place had the Purple Diamond but none had the Red Diamond. I ordered 3 of them and they are all doing good. I saw a few blooms in the fall and they do look red instead of the pink on my Purple Diamond. I like the pink too but wanted the red. All three of the plants are doing very good. I’m happy!
