Description

Rainbow Fizz Spirea lives up to its name sporting ever-changing foliage and flower colors through spring, summer and fall. During spring new growth emerges bronzy orange-red maturing to bright golden yellow through summer. With the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall the foliage starts to tale on bronze-orange hues and then dark red. Abundant fuzzy looking clusters of rosy pink-red flowers produced during late spring through early summer are an extra-added bonus that will draw in the butterflies and hummingbirds! Rainbow Fizz forms a dense rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide for a colorful accent in small garden spaces, or in groupings or as a border or hedge where space allows. Exceptionally drought tolerant when established and cold hardy to -40F. The foliage is more golden during spring and summer in full to mostly sun. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Combines nicely with plants or trees with deep green, blue, burgundy, red or purple foliage.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the Rainbow Fizz Spirea is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces or in stunning groupings or as a natural hedge in larger landscape spaces. Also a nice accent plant in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, rock gardens, Asian gardens, rock gardens, perennial gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Spacing:  3 feet apart for hedge or solid grouping;  8 feet or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Japanese Spirea are very easy to grow in most any well-drained soil of average to fertility and full to mostly sun for the best foliage color. We suggest at least 6 hours or more of direct sunlight per day. Foliage will be chartreuse to light green in more shade. A light shearing of spent flowers after the summer bloom encourages heavier rebloom. Flowers on new wood, so prune in late winter to early spring if desired. Older plants can be cut back to the ground in late winter for rejuvenation.
