Description
Indocalamus latifolius bamboo makes a beautiful low privacy screen in shady sites with large, dark green leaves up to a foot in length. Its lush foliage brings a touch of the tropics to any landscape. The foliage grows low to the ground forming a solid buffer 6 to 8 feet tall. It prefers a shady site however will tolerate some sun. We recommend shade or filtered sun during the mid-afternoon hours. With 4 hours of direct sun during the morning of late afternoon hours it will grow to 8 feet in height and a little shorter with more shade.

Growing Preferences
Latifolius Bamboo is easy to grow in any average, well-drained but moist soil and a shady to partially shaded site. Morning sun with shade or filtered sun during the mid afternoon hours is suggested. During the first growing season after planting, water as needed to keep soil around the plants moist, but not soggy or wet. When established, most bamboo will tolerate periods of dry weather, however, will appreciate an occasional deep soaking if the leaves begin to curl from drought stress.
How To Grow Bamboo Plants Indoors
Latifolius Bamboo is a running bamboo, which means it spreads. That said is a slow spreader and very easily controlled. Bamboo can be controlled in a small area (a normal city yard) simply by mowing or stepping on the young shoots. Keep in mind that running bamboo only puts up new shoots for a short time each year and, when they are “shooting,” the new plants are very fragile and easy to destroy. Root pruning or a Bamboo Root Barrier are other methods to control spread.
