Description
Not to be confused with the green fescue grass that is used for a lawn and requires frequent mowing, Blue Fescue is a low maintenance clumping perennial grass popular for adding cool color and soft texture in the garden. The powder-blue foliage of Blue Fescue stays bright through all seasons for year-round interest. The flowers that rise above the tidy mounds in late spring and summer add even more interest to this wonderful ornamental grass. Flowers start out greenish-blue and fade to a straw-yellow color by late summer. If you’d rather not have the flowers they can be removed without harming the plant.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a mound 12 inches tall and maybe a little wider, Blue Fescue is ideal for use as an accent, grouping, or border edger in small garden spaces. In larger garden spaces, a mass planting is absolutely captivating…providing a soothing feeling to any who gaze upon it. Also serves as a solo or grassy accent in container gardens. A fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, blue them gardens, bird gardens, rock gardens, Asian gardens, Zen gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing:  16 inches apart for mass plantings; 30 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Blue Fescue is very easy to grow in most any well-drained soil and full sun to mostly sun. Constantly soggy or wet soils are a killer. Established plants are quite tolerant of dry soil conditions. Maintenance is little to none. If preferred, flowers can be removed after they appear in summer. In early spring, dead blades can be teased by combing through the foliage with your hand, or plants can be cut back  to about 4 inches above the ground. Dividing plants ever few years can be done to reinvigorate plants that might look weak or to prevent center die-back.
